Affinity

Ray Compatibility Factors (Affinity)

Affinity refers to the spiritual connection between two potential partners. This is colored by the influence of the Seven Rays, relative spiritual evolution, the idealizing factors and the sense of essential identity. We will briefly discuss these factors in this article.

Influence of the Seven Rays

In general, the 28 different ray combinations yield a range of potential matches between individuals. These combinations and compatibility factors are shown below.

Combinations of the Rays
7-7 7-6 7-5 7-4 7-3 7-2 7-1
6-6 6-5 6-4 6-3 6-2 6-1
5-5 5-4 5-3 5-2 5-1

Relative Spiritual Evolution

One of the complicating factors in affinity is the divergence of spiritual evolution, e.g., the number of nodal points between the two individuals’ souls. While this is not set in stone, there are some general guidelines for spiritual evolutionary divergence.

Number of Nodal Points Separating the Souls of Potential Partners
Less than 24 nodal points Best
25-48 Good
49-72 Medium
73-96 Fair
97+ Poor
The Idealization Factor

In contrast to divergence of spiritual evolution, the devotional or idealizing factor tends to overcome the difficulty inherent in navigating the wide gulf between the partners’ souls. These types of idealization or devotion include:

  • Loving another as a Divine infant or child
  • Loving another as an eternal friend
  • Loving another as an ideal spouse or eternal consort (Soul Mate)
  • Loving another as a god or goddess
  • Loving another as an ancestral sage or ideal parent (Divine Father, Divine Mother)
  • Loving another as a teacher or guru
  • Loving another as an incarnation of God or Avatar
Differences in Faith

Differences in religious background (when the religious and spiritual groups or faiths are on different Rays) will decrease affinity. The variance of positioning of these faiths on the Great Continuum of Consciousness, in Subtle, Planetary, Cosmic, Supracosmic or Transcendental Bands, contributes to this distancing effect. For example, in the First Exoteric Planetary Initiation, we see the array of faiths across the Rays.

1st Ray Classical Judaism

2nd Ray Democracy

3rd Ray Catholicism

4th Ray Essene Judaism, Natural Healing

5th Ray Social Justice Christianity

6th Ray Evangelical Christianity

7th Ray Kabalistic Judaism

Faiths also align on the Great Continuum of Consciousness according to the band of the continuum on which one dwells. Sampling from this continuum we find:

Biophysical Universe Plane Nature Religions, Native American Religions

To be on the same spiritual path or in the same religion can be a cementing factor in relationships, provided both partners are "equally yoked" in the words of St. Paul. This means that the partners have a similar understanding of the faith and share a common perspective and hold largely the same values and aims.

Essential Identity Factors

The spiritual connection contributing to affinity is likewise enhanced when one senses that an individual resonates to the same spiritual essence in the same domain as their partner. These domains are shown below:

The noetic connection, that one resonates to the same nucleus of identity or ensouling entity, also plays a role in tying two individuals together. These ensouling entities and nuclei of identity are listed below:

Affinity cannot usually be developed: it either exists or doesn’t exist. It can be altered to some degree, for example, when one converts to another faith or when one makes great strides in spiritual evolution to come to a closer, or co-equal, footing with their partner.

Affinity is an innate principle that draws two individuals together to powerfully bond them, or may distance them indissolubly. When it is right, it is magic. And when it is out of attunement, any relationship can turn into a wilderness of loneliness and alienation. We hope you will reflect on affinity as you have experienced it with friends and loved ones, and with those with whom you have not had positive relationships.

We consider affinity along with other factors in our Relationship Compatibility Reading, and some of you may find this provides a helpful clarification and confirmation of your intuitive sense.

Having good affinity with your partner contributes to the feeling you are on the same mission or on the same path, and share the same intuitive and cosmological perspective. The deep sense of truly seeing eye-to-eye and feeling a powerful connection in your spiritual hearts and in your souls provides an abiding transpersonal foundation for keeping your personal relationships together. When you have affinity with another person, you feel it and know it beyond words.
