Meditation varies
in the depth of immersion for your attention.
When this depth of immersion
does not extend beyond the Conscious mind, the focus is on improving
everyday performance and controlling stress in daily life, it is called
practical meditation.
When meditation moves through
the Subconscious mind, plumbs the depths of the Metaconscious mind,
and unites with the Self, it is called centering meditation.
This type of meditation emphasizes giving you control over your entire
personality, yielding personal empowerment and increasing mastery over
your faculties.
When meditation extends into
the Supeconscious mind, reaching up to union with the ensouling entity
and the spirit, it is called transcendence meditation. This type
of meditation specializes on communion with the Superconscious mind,
the Soul, the spirit, and with the Divine. It seeks to promote transformation
of your spiritual evolutionary potentials. In this process of inner
change, you undergo initiation and ultimately ascend to Mastery and
Liberation.
But not everyone
is interested in gaining the deep psychological insight and empowerment
of centering meditation, or in doing the profound work of inner communion
and transformation of transcendence meditation. Some people just want
to know how to relax, how to cope with day-to-day stresses, how to be
more organized and successful.
This section of
our Reading Room features writing by George A. Boyd on practical meditation,
meditation you can use in everday life to make you deal with the issues
you confront when you're not in bliss consciousness or visiting the higher
worlds.
Among the topics
practical meditation covers include:
Learning study
skills to optimize your ability to acquire knowledge
Setting goals for your life
and doing life planning
Getting in touch with your
present time experience so you can enjoy and appreciate your life
Finding and keeping a job
so you are not worried about financial concerns
Developing independent living
skills so you can be less dependent on others and more self-reliant
Coping with stress and designing
a personalized stress reduction program
Finding your inner sense
of truth and guidance in the midst of daily living
Improving mental concentration
